English ash, locally sourced from well managed sustainable woodlands found in a small village in Devon. Ash is a stunning wood that can come in various different colours, the most commonly used being a nice pale yellow white. Ash typically has a straight grain, but this can vary wildly between different pieces, making it perfect for creating large vessels and bowls - giving it a permanent place in my workshop.
 
Hand turned to create modern curves with a natural void inclusion, and finished with a technique called yakisugi where the wood is torched, cleaned and coated with danish to create a hard wearing finish that shows off the grain and darkens the wood. This wood fruit bowl measures 26cm wide, 5.5cm tall, and 4.5cm deep.
