Hand turned to create a decorative vessel with a beaded exterior and a distinctive shape. This vessel is fairly light and has a textured feel in the hand. A technique called yakisugi is used where the wood is torched, cleaned and coated with hard wax oil to create a hard wearing finish that shows off the grain and darkens the wood. This vessel measures 17cm tall by 9cm wide. Perfect as a centrepiece or as decor around the home.
English ash, locally sourced from well managed sustainable woodlands found in a small village in Devon. Ash is a stunning wood that can come in various different colours, the most commonly used being a nice pale yellow white. Ash typically has a straight grain, but this can vary wildly between different pieces, making it perfect for creating large vessels and bowls - giving it a permanent place in my workshop.
