This handmade extra large wooden ash fruit bowl was carefully designed and made with specialist tools to create an huge deep bowl with gradually curving sides and an even profile. Featuring a lightly warped shape - a result of turning the wood thin whilst wet and allowing it to dry and warp, giving it a natural rustic look. This bowl is heavy in the hand and textured to the touch. Finished with a hard wax oil blend to preserve the pale colour of the ash, help highlight the beauty of the grain, and to improve durability. This large bowl measures 34cm at its widest point, 12cm tall, and 11.5cm deep.
 
English ash, locally sourced from well managed sustainable woodlands found in a small village in Devon. Ash is a stunning wood that can come in various different colours, the most commonly used being a nice pale yellow white. Ash typically has a straight grain, but this can vary wildly between different pieces, making it perfect for creating large vessels and bowls - giving it a permanent place in my workshop.
