A very large wooden fruit bowl handmade with specialist woodturning tools from strong English ash to create a shallow bowl with curvy modern sides and a thin even edge. This wooden bowl is heavy in the hand and beautifully silky smooth to the touch. The ash wood is from the heart of the tree, referred to as 'heartwood', and is figured which creates unique ripples and wavy patterns across the bowl. The grain is very wide, going in nice long lengths stretching across the bowl. Finished with 100% pure tung oil to darken the deep natural olive ash, whilst highlighting the beauty of the grain and improving durability against scratches and stains. This large bowl measures 37cm wide, 6.5cm tall, and 5cm deep.
English ash, locally sourced from well managed sustainable woodlands found in a small village in Devon. Ash is a stunning wood that can come in various different colours, the most commonly used being a nice pale yellow white. Ash typically has a straight grain, but this can vary wildly between different pieces, making it perfect for creating large vessels and bowls - giving it a permanent place in my workshop.
