This handmade extra large wooden ash fruit bowl was made with specialist woodturning tools to create a deep, thin bowl with traditional gradually curving sides and an even profile. Featuring a very wide, wavy grain, with natural cracks splits. Featuring a heavily warped shape - a result of turning the wood thin whilst wet and allowing it to dry and warp, giving it a natural rustic look. This bowl is heavy in the hand and silky smooth to the touch. Finished with a hard wax oil blend to preserve the pale colour of the ash, help highlight the beauty of the grain, and to improve durability. This extra large bowl measures 41cm at its widest point, 19.5cm tall, and 17cm deep.

English ash, locally sourced from well managed sustainable woodlands found in a small village in Devon. Ash is a stunning wood that can come in various different colours, the most commonly used being a nice pale yellow white. Ash typically has a straight grain, but this can vary wildly between different pieces, making it perfect for creating large vessels and bowls - giving it a permanent place in my workshop.
