This handmade wooden fruit bowl was made with specialist tools to create a large shallow bowl with gradually curving modern sides and a very thin profile. This bowl is very light in the hand and silky smooth to the touch. Finished with a white stained hard wax oil to keep the ash naturally pale and to prevent it developing a sickly yellow colour. This also helps highlight the beauty of the grain and to improve durability. This large bowl measures 32cm wide, 4cm tall, and 3.5cm deep.
 
English ash, locally sourced from well managed sustainable woodlands found in a small village in Devon. Ash is a stunning wood that can come in various different colours, the most commonly used being a nice pale yellow white. Ash typically has a straight grain, but this can vary wildly between different pieces, making it perfect for creating large vessels and bowls - giving it a permanent place in my workshop.
