Patterned English beech, locally sourced from well managed sustainable woodlands found in a small village in Devon. Beech is a stunning light brown coloured wood with hints of orange. The wavy black lines and patterns are formed when a beech tree is felled and left on its side to grow a particular type of fungus that runs throughout the wood. This is what creates the visually stunning markings found on this piece. With a straight, closed grain, giving it a strong surface, beech is often used for kitchen utensils and cabinetry - giving it a permanent place in my workshop.
Hand turned to create modern curves, and finished with a wax blend to create a high shine and to highlight the beauty of the grain. This large bowl measures 29.5cm wide, 5cm tall, and 4cm deep.
