This handmade wooden ash fruit bowl was carefully designed and made with specialist tools to create an extra large deep bowl with gradually curving sides and an even profile. Featuring a highly warped shape - a result of turning the wood thin whilst wet and allowing it to dry and warp, giving it a natural rustic look. This bowl is moderately heavy in the hand and silky smooth to the touch. Finished with a hard wax oil to preserve the light colour of the ash, help highlight the beauty of the grain, and to improve durability. This large bowl measures 28.5cm at its widest point, 13cm tall, and 12cm deep.
 
English ash, locally sourced from well managed sustainable woodlands found in a small village in Devon. Ash is a stunning wood that can come in various different colours, the most commonly used being a nice pale yellow white. Ash typically has a straight grain, but this can vary wildly between different pieces, making it perfect for creating large vessels and bowls - giving it a permanent place in my workshop.
