English oak, locally sourced from well managed sustainable woodlands found in a small village in Devon. Oak is a timber species revered in British culture due to its durability and strength, and its long list of traditional uses in British history. With a beautiful yellow brown heartwood and straight, uniform grain, oak can be used for almost anything - making it one of the most sought after pieces for my workshop.
This large bowl was turned wet, which is when the wood still contains a high percentage of water and can still warp. Whilst I don't get the opportunity to turn wet wood often, I thoroughly enjoy the process and love to use the warping wood to make the piece more of a natural look. This bowl measures 31.5cm wide and it's widest point, 12.5cm tall and 12cm deep.
