Finished with a food safe hard wax oil to highlight the beauty of the grain and to improve durability. This bowl measures just over 10.5cm wide, 12cm tall, and 10cm deep. Patterned English beech, locally sourced from well managed sustainable woodlands found in a small village in Devon. Beech is a stunning light brown coloured wood with hints of orange. The wavy black lines and patterns are formed when a beech tree is felled and left on its side to grow a particular type of fungus that runs throughout the wood. This is what creates the visually stunning markings found on this piece. With a straight, closed grain, giving it a strong surface, beech is often used for kitchen utensils and cabinetry - giving it a permanent place in my workshop.
