English oak, locally sourced from well managed sustainable woodlands found in a small village in Devon. Oak is a timber species revered in British culture due to its durability and strength, and its long list of traditional uses in British history. With a beautiful yellow brown heartwood and straight, uniform grain, oak can be used for almost anything - making it one of the most sought after pieces for my workshop.
 
Hand turned to create modern straight sides, and finished with a technique called yakisugi where the wood is torched, cleaned and coated with danish to create a hard wearing finish that shows off the grain and darkens the wood.
 
This bowl measures 24cm wide, 4.5cm tall and 3.5cm deep.
