Hand turned to create a wooden bowl designed for items such fruit, keys and coins. With curved sides and a thin profile, a small natural warp around the rim, and an eye catching pattern. Featuring a smooth finish created with a combination of oiling and buffing over a period of 48 hours. Finished with a hard wax oil with a white dye to keep the natural pale colour of the wood and to highlight the markings across the piece. This wooden bowl measures just over 24cm wide, 6cm tall at its tallest point, and 4.5cm deep. Perfect for use as a fruit bowl or as decor around the home.
 
Patterned English beech, locally sourced from well managed sustainable woodlands found in a small village in Devon. Beech is a stunning light brown coloured wood with hints of orange. The wavy black lines and patterns are formed when a beech tree is felled and left on its side to grow a particular type of fungus that runs throughout the wood. This is what creates the visually stunning markings found on this piece. With a straight, closed grain, giving it a strong surface, beech is often used for kitchen utensils and cabinetry - giving it a permanent place in my workshop.
